There are many ways that you can be a part of this journey with YAGM,
- Financially
- Spiritually
- Interpersonally
I have included official information about financial sponsorship below (including how to count it as a tax deduction!). However, non-financial support is just as important! So please, do as you are able, willing, and called.

ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission – Information for Sponsors
The ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program invites ELCA young adults, ages 19-29, into a transformative, year-long journey in international mission service. As they offer themselves in service, YAGM volunteers are shaped by the witness of our global neighbors. They return to the United States equipped with skills and stories that will impact the church and wider society for years to come. Your gift to the YAGM program is not just an investment in one young adult; it is an investment in the future of Christ’s church.
Young adults in the program serve alongside global companions in churches, health and development projects, schools, and social service ministries. Currently the program is engaged in work in Argentina & Uruguay, Central Europe - Hungary, Jerusalem & the West Bank, Madagascar, Cambodia, Rwanda, Mexico, Southern Africa, and the United Kingdom. (With new country programs in the works!)
The total annual cost to support one young adult in the program is just under $11,000. This includes training and periodic retreats, round-trip travel to and from the country of service, full room and board, a small monthly stipend, and basic medical insurance. Each volunteer commits to a minimum $4,000 fundraising effort to help support of their year of service, which begins at the end of August. The ELCA provides the remaining amount needed for the volunteer’s support. Any funds raised beyond the $4,000 goal support the future development and expansion of the Young Adults in Global Mission program.
Please note the following guidelines which each young adult must follow when raising funds:
1- The young adult volunteer may raise money only for the Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program. Volunteers are not permitted to accept donations as personal gifts.
2- Contributions made via the ELCA or via a local congregation are tax deductible.
3- The preferred deadline for receiving funds is August 1, but the YAGM program is glad to accept
gifts throughout the volunteer’s entire year of service.
